Lingvist's employee of the month #1 : May 2015

The Lingvist team likes to have fun, but also works hard to change the way people are learning languages.

With the launch of the Mobile App on Monday, learning a language has become even easier. Let’s take a look at the people who are making all of this possible.

Every month, one of our team members will get his moment of fame on the Lingvist Blog. A good way to learn more about the Lingvist team and discover who is helping you to learn a language faster!

Let’s start with Igor - one of the software developers who built the Lingvist mobile app - and worked hard to make sure it exceeds your expectations.

Hi Igor, can you introduce yourself in a few words?

Hi, I’m 34 and I’m a software developer from Estonia. I previously worked at Skype and have been working at Lingvist since March 2015. So far, I have been focusing on developing the Lingvist app for iOS.

Lingvist is currently teaching English and French. Let’s see which one is your favourite culture?

  • Would you rather eat croissants or English breakfast? English Breakfast.
  • Would you rather drink French wine or English tea? English tea, definitely: “It’s like a hug in a cup!”
  • Would you rather read Molière or Shakespeare? Shakespeare, though I don’t have anything against Molière personally.
  • Would you rather play Pétanque or Football? Pétanque! Much more friendly!

Lingvist is all about languages. How many languages do you speak? Which one would you like to learn next?

I speak Estonian, English and Russian fluently. If I had the choice, I would like to start learning Spanish. I am looking forward to the Spanish module on Lingvist!

If Hollywood would make a movie about the Lingvist story, whom would you like to play your role?

I don’t think any actor would be good enough to play my role! Instead of a movie, I would rather the story of Lingvist to be told through an episode of Spongebob Squarepants!

Between all these superpowers, which one would you choose: Speaking all the languages in the world, time-travelling or flying.

Does speaking all languages in the world include the animal language? If it does, then this superpower would be great! I would definitely pick this one!

While working on Lingvist software, you have seen a lot of French words. Which one is your favourite?

I like the word “femme”. This word is as beautiful as its meaning. Who said that software developpers can’t be romantic?!

If you ended up on the island, what are the 3 objects you would like to take with you?

As a software developer, the answer is quite obvious: the first item I would pack and take with me would be my own laptop. The second-one would be a back-up laptop… Better be prepared! Last but not least, I would take a helicopter with me. I don’t know how nobody never thinks about it!

Let’s be serious for a while and talk a bit about the Lingvist mobile app; what is its best feature according to you?

The Lingvist mobile app offers a great user experience in general. It’s simple, easy to use and it synced with other devices! That’s great.

What do you like the best in working at Lingvist?

Lingvist is a family-like company. I really appreciate the feeling of being part of a small but united team. And the best thing? We are hiring right now!

A last word for our users?

Try the Lingvist Mobile App you won’t be disappointed!
