@dev_temp Hi! I know how you feel, there is some really great stuff on here. However, I'm moving threads that are really useful to our blog. If you have one that you think is worth keeping, please let me know and I will make sure it migrates to the blog.
@Phoenix95 If you want to learn the genders of nouns, you could seek out an Anki deck for French, or make your own using that program. It also supports category tagging, so you can restrict your learning to a certain category (if these tags are provided, or added by you)
As for understanding whole sentences, it seems obvious to mention Duolingo here, have you tried it?
Hi @Vladimir, this is an excellent question! May we check really quickly what is your objective in repeating on-demand words? Are you concerned that you might start forgetting words you've learned some time ago (and haven't seen come up in a while)?
Hi @Neeme-Reest, if you start using a social login which is linked to a different email address than the one you used before, it acts as a new Lingvist account. It appears that with the accidentally registered new account, you also have selected a course from Estonian (hence the interface language switching to Estonian). What you need to do right now is log out and log in as you used to before (with email or Facebook). If you would like to switch to using a Google login, write to firstname.lastname@example.org, we will need to look into your case.
Hi Jen. I do think that learning another language has many advantages including logical thinking. I also feel, as an older person, it keeps my brain active and could help with some of the dementia's that afflict the older generations.
Loving Lingvist !
We use learning data to continuously improve our product. For example, based on answers given in the guess game, we identify sources of confusion and common mistakes and make amendments to the course to address these. We also improve our repetition algorithms based on answers given by our users. The collected data enables us to personalise the learning experience and therefore speed up learning.
The more you use the app the better it will become!
Another good idea other than badges is adding estimation of the time to finish a number of words based on my current average spead. For example you will finish x words in n days.. that would be helpful on the statistics page...
I assume that they decided the order of apparition of each word for some reason. But maybe a option to break the order of first appearance could be add.
Besides the vocabulary on Lingvist, you have the possibility to use "Anki" and create a deck for your own vocabulary. On Anki, it is possible to add sound, picture...
Hi @Les-Cullen, @Alexis-Paige, @Ray,
The most recent update has strengthened our app technically, but because it's continually being developed, it's inevitably had a few features temporarily put aside. All the features you're currently missing will be back—either as they were or in a similar/improved incarnation! We would like to hear from you, our community of learners and ask you to vote for which feature you'd most like to see back.
Hi @Reinaldox, great to hear from you here and welcome to Lingvist:)
What you have been doing is correct! We teach you the most frequently spoken words. The way you learn them is by doing cards. The app adapts to your mistakes and shows you those cards, where you make more mistakes more often (and those, which are easier for you - less). Based on your answers for each word in the course, the algorithm calculates your optimal time for repeating each word.
To get the most out of Lingvist, we suggest doing as many cards as possible on the first day, and then making a regular habit of doing some learning every day—50 cards at least, more if you can. If you're reading this and its not your first day, pretend it is! Challenge yourself to do as many as you can today, and then take it easier in the days to come.
To support your learning even when you are not on Lingvist, switch your phone and computer to English. We also recommend cooking shows in English to nurture you physically and mentally! And we can suggest a few!
