When will the Spanish course get extended?

  • works@Lingvist

Some of you have asked, when will the Spanish course get new words?
Our Spanish linguist has the same question.

Here's what has been happening behind the scenes:

Keeping up with the commitments of the previous quarter, course focuses took priority and the product team was keen on delivering them across language pairs. Javi, our Spanish linguist, is very passionate about two things:

    • George Elliot (It is never too late to be what you might have been.)
    • the Spanish course.

Javi convinced product to carve out time for the Spanish course extension ahead of their schedule, and the work is due to begin any day now.

From the moment he starts working on the task it shall take approximately 1,5 months before you guys will be able to see the words in your courses. Perhaps @Javier could ping us all here when he lays his hands over the Excel sheets.

Muchas gracias por su paciencia 🖤

Hi @alex-zorach! Thank you very much for your kind words! 🙂

Regarding the total word count on our EN>ES course, it is almost 6000 at the moment (the actual number is 5935, to be more specific). We also released a Business focus two days ago, so now you can learn around 1200 relevant business terms and contexts in Spanish 💼

    ¡Feliz aprendizaje!

  • It looks like the course has now been extended! I'm not sure if it reaches the whole way to 5000 words or not, but I'm just over 4700 and it is still feeding me new words.

I do appreciate the addition of new words. 4000 to 5000 is a substantial difference in vocabulary, and I have noticed some of these words showing up in daily usage, and found some of them useful when trying to express ideas myself.

In the end though, I think the Spanish course is already more-than-good-enough for me to use it as a booster to get me most of the way to where I can go the rest of the way through immersion.

I would really like to see Lingvist turn now towards adding more languages. I have not found any other tools that are as effective as Lingvist, and I'm close to exhausting it for the three languages I want to learn (Spanish, German, and Russian) on it...but there are other languages (Chinese, Hindi, Portuguese, Japanese) that I would really like to learn, and that are not offered yet.

  • Hi Marina,

@marina said in When will the Spanish course get extended?:

George Elliot (It is never too late to be what you might have been.)

I very much like this phrase!

Don't be discouraged if one thing, you really want to do / where you want to get better or what you really want to be yourself, does not work well immediately on the first try.

    "Steter Tropfen höhlt den Stein!".
    "Gib niemals auf!"

I saw a very inspiriring video on Youtube from Josh Kaufman "The first 20 hours - how to learn anything" on a TED Talk:

I would like to wish your team good success with extending your Spanish course....one day, I may be able to benefit from it.

Best regards / Viele Grüße aus Deutschland
