  • @Kyle-Goetz said in German Language Errors:

    say
In Friesland trinken echte Männer Tee (mit Rum).

  • Hi Lisa,
I found this one. Do you have puzzels with the heroes from Disney movies? In any case it should be Filmen. Zeichenfilm is not used here, it could be a movie about drawing or signatures as well. -- Zeichentrickfilmen. The english version doesn't refer only to animated Disney movies so Disney-Filmen should be enough.

  • @Lisa-Lingvist Yeah, I meant Stunden. I always use Uhr by accident since it refers to the o'clock (i.e., hour) part of times. 😕

do you agree? Do real men drink tea? We had lot's of laughs and discussions about whether this should say 'beer, vodka, coffee, water'... 😄

    Scotch 🙂

Auf Deutsch sagen Sie ... Die Haare auf der Brust wachsen? In English we say It puts hair on your chest

@SMN said in German Language Errors:

    True men drink tea.
    Richtige Männer trinken Tee.

Is this a correct translation? Instinctively I'd go with real.

Now that you say it, I would also intuitively say 'Real men drink tea.' As @Kyle-Goetz noted, I think both work... the only think you cannot say is 'wirkliche Männer'. There, it must be 'echte'.

BTW, do you agree? Do real men drink tea? We had lot's of laughs and discussions about whether this should say 'beer, vodka, coffee, water'... 😄

@Kyle-Goetz said in German Language Errors:

Mein Wanderwochenende war zu kurz! Ich konnte nur 4 Uhren wandern! Verdammt Regen!

    @dev_temp
Regarding the 'more meanings' tab being empty: Yes, we know this is a bug and it is being worked on asap. 🙂

  • works@Lingvist

    Guten morgen!
@dev_temp said in German Language Errors:

the video gets a lot of value from being unstaged

Jetzt verstehe ich was du meinst. (Inszeniert = staged.)
I am glad you say that too, since that was my biggest worry. I am a linguist, not a professional in the movie making business, so they are purely fun amateur clips. 😉

  • Native English speaker from Texas here. I would go with real, but true sounds correct to me if not the most locally correct. Note that there is a logical fallacy called the No True Scotsman fallacy where this true is this very usage (in fact, this sentence is something of a no true scotsman fallacy itself!), so it's definitely a correct usage even though at least regionally we might say real instead.

Although apparently the German name for this fallacy is Kein wahrer Schotte

  • True men drink tea.
    Richtige Männer trinken Tee.

Is this a correct translation? Instinctively I'd go with real.

  • Mein Wanderwochenende war zu kurz! Ich konnte nur 4 Uhren wandern! Verdammt Regen!

  • @Lisa-Lingvist more and more often I meat cards with new "more meanings" box that is empty:
    alt text
I believe, it shoudn't be displayed at all is it's empty (that how it works for most of the cards). One of those loose end, you know... Is that something you are aware of or you need a list of those cards?
P.S. this box is from "Wir sind für dieses Vorhaben."

@dev_temp said in German Language Errors:

Das Video hat viel Wert ungestellt zu sein

meinst du vielleicht 'dargestellt'? (The video was very valuable?)

That was one of that words I had to look up. Basically, it was supposed to express the following: "the video gets a lot of value from being unstaged (candid, unprepared, improvised, captured real you)" I'm sure the word exists, though the wording maybe lame. I took years form me to get to that level of lameness :-P
Another topic completely gone off alt text

  • works@Lingvist

@dev_temp said in German Language Errors:

Das Video hat viel Wert ungestellt zu sein

meinst du vielleicht 'dargestellt'? (The video was very valuable?)

  • @Lisa-Lingvist said in German Language Errors:

So how did you and @Kyle-Goetz like the video? I assume it's always surprising to see faces behind post. Reactions?

  • works@Lingvist

@Kyle-Goetz Thanks! Craft Bier definitely deserves to be caps anyway! Fixed it in the system.
    Wie war dein Wanderwochenende?

  • works@Lingvist

@dev_temp well thanks for helping each other out while I was busy making videos ;-).
I almost want to make this into an example sentence:
When you over promise and under deliver a typical customer gets frustrated. I completely agree and, trust us, we have been frustrated often as well. (Won't go into detail in the hope of not getting into trouble :D.)

So how did you and @Kyle-Goetz like the video? I assume it's always surprising to see faces behind post. Reactions? Wish a question would have been answered that wasn't? It's obviously pretty raw material that hopefully shows how much fun the four of us have (none of that was staged - and yes, @Javier really does want to build a Spice Girl's Museum.)!

  • I found what I think is a typo:

Am liebsten mag Justin craft Bier

Ich glaube, dass craft Craft sein sollte. (this construction feels weird to me! Did I make a mistake?)

  • @Lisa-Lingvist said in German Language Errors:

@dev_temp I know you are still holding your breath, BUT German conjugation and declension tables are coming soon.

Glad to have to back in full power, Lisa. In fact I have a table that I consider more or less satisfactory, so I'm not holding my breath for it. I just don't like those loose ends dangling here and there. When you over promise and under deliver a typical customer gets frustrated. If there a link to a missing feature or reference to a missing material it makes that "rough" impression, that is better to avoid.
I'd like to think I'm helping you guys to make this service better and not being just a loud mouth getting in your way.

  • works@Lingvist

@dev_temp I know you are still holding your breath, BUT German conjugation and declension tables are coming soon. @Kyle-Goetz thanks for the list of irregular German verbs!

  • works@Lingvist

    @dev_temp
The bet winner buys drinks in Germany or I'm missing something?

Yes, of course you have to buy drinks if you lose! 😉
